Spanish lessons in Peru

Learn Spanish in Peru and Enjoy These Four Top Weekend Excursions

Make the most out of your experience when you study Spanish in Peru. Your classes will take place during the week, leaving free time on the weekends to explore the amazing sites and rich history that the country has to offer.

A typical week when you learn Spanish in Lima includes 20 hours of classes. So there are still plenty of hours to partake in the city’s various cultural activities. Make time to sample the country’s famous seafood and drink Peru’s traditional beverage, Pisco Sour.

During the week, you can also go hand gliding over the oceanside cliffs of Miraflores. Also don’t miss surfing at Lima’s beaches. If you don’t know how to surf, there are lessons available for beginners.

But the weekends are also an integral part of your trip, and you really should consider taking proper advantage of living so close to some of the world’s most famous tourist destinations. And you will not need to worry about lack of company. It will be a good idea to take your own custom laptop to assist your assimilation of this fascinating language. When you learn Spanish in Lima, it is easy to make new friends who are also traveling alone. These people will make great partners for excursions.

Here are four suggestions for weekend trips to places that you simply do not want to miss. If you attend Spanish school in Peru for eight weeks, these weekend trips would fit perfectly into a schedule where you leave Lima every other week.

1. Visit the Southern Beaches

It is easy to take a daytrip to the southern beaches in Peru, which are about 20-40 miles south. These sandy destinations include Punta Negra, Santa Maria and Pucusana. While, of course, Lima is on the ocean as well, these southern beaches are cleaner, less crowded and sunnier.

You can take the bus for less than $2 to these locations. If you are looking for a ride in a car, why not make some local friends who are interested in a day at the beach? You can let them drive and offer to buy gas and sandwiches.

2. Spend time at the Pre-Incan ruins

A second great idea for a daytrip is to visit the Pre-Incan ruins of Pachacámac, which are located in the Lurin Valley. Pachacámac was the god of fire and also son of the sun god. These pyramids and palaces date back from the 1st century, as Incans did not conquer the area until the 15th century. Budget under an hour by car. If you and three friends share a taxi, it will be about $10 each.

3. Explore the Jungle

Another trip that you should definitely consider is to go to Iquitos. Although it appears far from Lima, a short $150 flight makes it a quick weekend.

Iquitos is the cultural center of Peru’s jungle. Once you are in this area you can take a rainforest tour or a riverboat cruise. There are plenty of exotic animals to behold. If you get to this area Friday evening you should be able to make it back for Spanish class Monday morning. Like everywhere in Peru, there is incredible local food to try in the jungle.

4. See One of the Great Wonders of the World

Another weekend trip not to be missed is one to Cusco. The flight to Cusco is only an hour and costs about $150 roundtrip. Ideally, you should plan to spend four days in Cusco, which means you will want to take one day off from school.

Cusco is a beautiful small city built over Incan roads and was once the capital of the Incan empire. The first few days, you will be adjusting to the altitude, so plan to take it easy and visit local museums. The next day, take the train to Machu Picchu. If you leave in 7am, you will be back by 6pm. This is a very comfortable ride that includes a meal.

You will definitely agree that Machu Picchu deserves to be ranked amongst the world’s great wonders. The majesty of the sites that you will behold can only be compared to the great Pyramids of Egypt or Angor Wat in Cambodia.

The fact of the matter is that there is so much to do in Lima that many students will never leave the city. However, we strongly advise that you should consider taking short weekend trips. After all, when you are living in Peru, you have access to some of the most amazing locations on earth.

Child safe vacations

For anyone going on vacation with young children, there is an extra element of planning and concern that overrides all others and has been exacerbated since the disappearance of Madeline McCann. Now, parents need to be even more concerned with child safety than ever before. These concerns now go far beyond checking your holiday accommodation for obvious trip hazards. Now you need to make sure that the accommodation is secure against intruders, and that the gardens are enclosed, for example.  Very few parents would now be happy to leave their children sleeping in the room or villa with a remote babysitter service.  Their approach to issues like this have changed completely since the abduction of Maddy.  So parents need to stay with the little ones twenty four hours a day unless their care is entrusted to close family members.  Safety of your small child is also a concern at the beach or poolside and many parents use lkeads, which used to be know as reins, for toddlers to remain close to their carers.

When booking your vacation there are plenty of things you can chek on before booking.  Ask whether the hotel has 24 hour security and if not, then look elsewhere for a safer destination for you and your family.

Disney world tips

Disney World Vacation Planning – Common Mistakes that Could Ruin your Vacation

If you are planning a Disney World vacation for you and your family then there are five key mistakes that you will want to avoid. They are not appreciating the size of the Resort, staying off property, not making dining reservations, trying to squeeze too much in and not doing any planning. Here’s how you can avoid making the same mistakes to make sure your family have a vacation they’ll remember forever.

1. It’s twice the size of Manhattan

Did you know that the Walt Disney World Resort is twice the size of Manhattan? Well you do now! The first mistake people make when heading out to Disney on vacation is that they expect it to be like Six Flags. They certainly get a shock when they arrive at the gates and discover that there are four themeparks, two waterparks, miniature golf, championship golf courses, a shopping village and more lights in hotels and world class restaurants than you can shake a stick at.

2. Staying off property won’t work for everyone

Now some Disney World stalwarts will insist that you have to stay in a Disney World hotel to truly experience the magic. I have to disagree. There are advantages to staying on Disney property including free transportation to and from the theme parks and that Disney magic which extends to your hotel, right down to the shampoo!

But for some people staying off property can also have its benefits. If you have a large family then you will often find it cheaper to rent a private house than to try and squeeze into one hotel room. If you’re travelling on a budget then having your own kitchen can cut the cost of meals. You will of course need to factor in the cost of a rental car, parking at the themeparks and the time it will take you to travel to and from the parks.

3. If you want to eat then you need to book

If you do decide to stay on Disney property then you need to think about what you would like to eat and where. It’s no good to just turn up at a restaurant when you start to feel hungry, reservations need to be made 180 days in advance. Yes you read that right; Advanced Dining Reservations need to be made either by calling Guest Services or by heading to the Disney website six months before you travel.

4. Fourteen into seven just won’t go

People ask me why I continue to visit Walt Disney World year after year, and the answer is that after all this time I still haven’t seen everything there is to experience. One of the biggest mistakes people make is to try and cram everything into a seven day trip. The result? They end up worn out and grumpy and wonder why on earth they thought a Disney vacation was a good idea!

You need to accept that you will not see everything there is to see in one trip and instead make a list of your “must sees” and “must dos”.

5. Fail to plan and you could ruin your vacation

A trip to Disney World certainly isn’t cheap so I guess you’ve had to do some saving up to be able to take your family. So my question to you is; why would you spend thousands of a dollars on a vacation and then not spend some time researching the Resort and drawing up a list of things you really want to do?

The people who have the most amazing Disney vacations, and then want to return year after year, are those who enjoy planning their trips as much as they love taking them.
