Holiday Reps explained

Types of Holiday Reps

Overseas/Holiday Reps are also known as Customer Services Rep, Resort Rep and Overseas Rep depending on the tour operator you work for but they all basically have the same role. To be a successful overseas rep, you must be outgoing, enjoy meeting and interacting with new people and embrace new experiences and cultures. It is also important that you have excellent sales skills as well as an energetic approach as it can be a very busy but very rewarding job.

The role will often include meeting customers at the airport, presenting them with information that is useful and accurate, holding welcome meetings, visiting hotels on a regular basis to offer guidance and support, displaying high levels of customer service and resolving any problems in a calm and collective manner. Other aspects of the job include guiding excursions, carrying out health and safety checks on the hotel/s and completion of paperwork. Read more »

Timeshare – free family vacations?

Does Timeshare Work?

I am not going to be one that simply knocks timeshare for the sake of doing so. I am sure it has some advantages; but I worry when I read “when you buy timeshare on the resale market, you are already ahead of the game, as used properties are significantly less expensive than new ones.” (Consider a Timeshare for your family Vacations, by David Chandler).

Writers on timeshare seem to agree that one is lucky to get 50 cents on the dollar with a resale. Some, very cynical about the benefits, say that the chances of timeshare sales-personnel buying into their own product is almost nil. Most categorically claim it is 0%. Not sure if this is quite the case, but people are becoming very disillusioned; no mistake about that. It has become expensive and there is no guarantee of being able to just take off at your specified week; and trust me swapping doesn’t always work. School holidays in various countries are different, and annual fees are on the increase. Read more »

New South Wales Hotels for Less

Competition for your travel dollar has never been so keen, so make sure you shop around for the very best deals available whenever you are staying away from home.  Last weekend we had the chance to takes a short break and we discovered that the difference between the best and worst rates offered was more than a hundred per cent!

Finally this year we are planning a trip down under and the CheaperthanHotels website is required reading.  It does not matter whether you are looking for a two star hotel or deluxe, you will save money on your accommodation.  In New South Wales, there are some beautiful Coffs Harbour Hotels overlooking the bay and the beautiful Coffs coastline – and they will not cost you a fortune to get this amazing view. Close to Coffs Harbour are some World Heritage Rainforest areas that are totally unmissable.

Further down the coast from Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie makes an excellent base for visiting attractions like the nature reserve at Sea Acres as  well as the John Downes park, which are both situated on the east coast with a view across to the beautiful Lord Howe Island.  Here, you can find Port Macquarie Hotels ranging from as little as £40 a night.

Closer to Brisbane, Byron Bay Hotels are a tad more luxurious and still give you great value for your holiday spend. Check out the East on Byron Bay resort with its tropical swimming pools and relaxing ambience. Never pay top price again, and you can travel further and better for less.

Southern California Road Trip

Cruisin’ The Southern California Coastline Road Trip – Part II

Last time, we cruised along the Northern California Coastline; now it’s time to fire up your Road Trip Planner and skirt the southern coastline to complete your own California Cruisin’ Dream Trip.

We left off in one of my favorite areas, Big Sur. Simply put — and the main reason to include this in your road trip planning — Big Sur offers stunning views. It’s that stretch of highway where land meets sea in a jaw-dropping way because the Santa Lucia Mountains rise like colossal sentries from the Pacific Ocean. Read more »

Thailand Vacation Accommodation Guide

What to expect from Thailand hotels

Looking for a relaxing yet adventure-filled vacation? Even before the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer, The Beach, brought controversy – and media mileage to this mystical yet modern country in the east, Thailand has long been a favorite among tourists – especially backpackers who want to experience a holiday to remember.

For first-timers in Thailand, it is highly recommended to stay in the country’s capital, Bangkok for at least three days. In spite of the many high-rise buildings and posh malls, Bangkok has certainly not lost its Eastern charm as you are reminded of the Thais rich culture every place you go – through the many temples, the delectable food, and the people’s warm hospitality. It is also good to note that holidaying in Thailand – no matter which Thai city you choose to stay in, is actually very cheap. Read more »
